Below are HS 2026 district-wise English Grammar questions on Narration. Each question is rewritten with its correct form of narration given immediately after the sentence for easy understanding and revision.
Baksa District – Narration
- “Why aren't you wearing shoes?” the teacher asks the girl. “My mother did not bring them down from the shelf,” she answers. → The teacher asked the girl why she was not wearing shoes. She replied that her mother had not brought them down from the shelf.
- Ramen told his brother not to run in the sun. The brother replied that he would be coming soon. → Ramen advised his brother not to run in the sun. The brother replied that he would come soon.
Barpeta District – Narration
- Wachter called after me, “Don't go so fast, boy, you'll get to your school in plenty of time.” → Wachter called after me and advised me not to go so fast, saying that I would get to my school in plenty of time.
- My father said to my brother, “Will you not go to the book fair this time?” He replied, “I'll not go.” → My father asked my brother whether he would not go to the book fair that time. He replied that he would not go.
Biswanath District – Narration
- Zubeen Garg said, “I have no caste, no religion. I don't believe in God.” → Zubeen Garg said that he had no caste and no religion and that he did not believe in God.
- I asked Jyotshna what she was doing. Jyotshna replied that she was preparing her lesson. → (No change – already in indirect speech.)
Charaideo District – Narration
- Utpal said to Nasim, “Let us play tennis.” Nasim replied, “No, the sun is too hot now.” → Utpal suggested to Nasim that they should play tennis. Nasim replied that the sun was too hot then.
- I asked my friend why he looked so sad. He replied that his father was ill. → (No change – already in indirect speech.)
Cotton University – Narration
- He said to me, “What are you doing here now?” → He asked me what I was doing there then.
- I said to him, “I can lend you my book.” → I told him that I could lend him my book.
Dhubri District – Narration
- Gandhi said to Shukla, “Come and meet me and take me from there.” → Gandhi told Shukla to come and meet him and take him from there.
- He requested me to sit down for a few minutes. I told him that I would be late for school. → He requested me to sit down for a few minutes. I replied that I would be late for school.
Golaghat District – Narration
- Ramen said to the boy, “What's the matter? Why are you crying?” → Ramen asked the boy what the matter was and why he was crying.
- “I've just bought a car,” said Peter. → Peter said that he had just bought a car.
Hojai District – Narration
- Ram said to me, “Let's go to the Zoo on Sunday.” → Ram suggested to me that we should go to the Zoo on Sunday.
- The teacher said to my sister, “Can you tell me the name of this tall man?” → The teacher asked my sister whether she could tell him the name of that tall man.
Majuli District – Narration
- “Where do you go every Sunday?” I asked the girl. → I asked the girl where she went every Sunday.
- He said, “How long will you stay here?” → He asked how long I would stay there.
Morigaon District – Narration
- “Why aren't you wearing chappals?” I asked one boy. → I asked one boy why he was not wearing chappals.
- My niece told me that she was very thirsty. → (No change – already in indirect speech.)
Sonitpur District – Narration
- The master said to the boy, “Where do you live?” → The master asked the boy where he lived.
- The little boy said, “Alas! I have broken my toy.” → The little boy exclaimed with sorrow that he had broken his toy.
Hailakandi District – Narration
- The boy said to his mother, “Are you preparing breakfast for me?” His mother said, “Yes.” → The boy asked his mother if she was preparing breakfast for him, and his mother replied in the affirmative.
- I asked the boy where he lived. The boy replied that he lived in a small village near the railway station. → I asked the boy where he lived, and he replied that he lived in a small village near the railway station.
- The old man said to the boy, “Where are you going now?” The boy said, “I am going to the hospital to see my mother.” → The old man asked the boy where he was going then, and the boy replied that he was going to the hospital to see his mother.
